A Woman of Fortune

Imagine thinking you have the perfect life, husband, and children, and then one day learning your whole life was a lie. This is just what happened to Claire Massey in A Woman for Fortune by Kellie Coates Gilbert. While attending a fancy fundraiser for their soon to be son-in-law, Tuck Massey is arrested, while his wife Claire is left to try and salvage the life they created together. Tuck soon pled guilty to fraud. He stole millions from their friends, family, and church. Claire must struggle with overcoming his deception and trying to hold their family together.

I really liked this book, and the characters were more interesting to me than I thought they would be. Sometimes when you read books about people who have everything, and then lose it, they tend to be not very likable. This is not at all the fact with Claire Massey. She realizes she had a very privileged life, and she is willing to work to do whatever it takes to be self-sufficient while her husband is in prison. I won’t give away the ending, but Claire really struggled with whether she should stay with her husband or not. I think this seemed like a really real emotion, as I would struggle with the same thing if I found out someone I thought I knew was lying to me for a large part of our relationship.

This was a great book, and I look forward to reading more in the Texas Gold Novel series.
