When I saw an interview about the book Tough AsThey Come by SSG Travis Mills, I could not wait to read it and hear more of his
story and the experiences he went through while recovering. Travis Mills, a member
of the 82nd Airborne Division, is a quadruple amputee veteran from
the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. His book was truly inspiring and shows the
sacrifice he, and other soldiers, make on a daily basis. His story covers his
younger years, his time in the military, and recovering from his injury. He
didn’t gloss over the experiences he had and the way he felt in terms of his
anger after the explosion. I also liked the focus on his friends, family, and
soldiers – it was interesting to see the different perspectives of people who were
close to him in his life.
I’m so glad I was able to read this book, and I have
since passed it on to my sister who was interested in Travis Mills’ story since
she, too, saw an interview discussing his time in the military. This is a great
read for anyone who wants to hear an extremely inspiring story.
