Recently
I have been hearing a lot about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his life during the
time of WWII. When I got a chance to read Strange Glory: A Life of Dietrich
Bonhoeffer by Charles Marsh, I was really excited to learn more about his
actions against the Nazis in the 1930s. Dietrich Bonhoeffer lived in Germany
and was a Pastor and Theologian who took a stand against Hitler during the
height of his power. Ultimately, this led to his execution.
I liked
all of the details that this book contained about Bonhoeffer’s life, from
childhood all the way through adulthood. There was not too much focus on just
one particular part of his life, rather the book seemed to show how each part
of his life contributed to the man he became. It was well-written and contained
completely new information to me, since I never read anything about Dietrich
Bonhoeffer in the past. Since I already enjoy reading historic books, and
anything about WWII, this book was not a stretch for me to read. I think it may
be a little on the long side for people who don’t typically read biographies.
